As is sometimes said,  “A picture is worth a thousand words.” That is true with many things, and with genealogy results, it is almost a necessity to be able to see “the tree thru the forest.” Genealogy pedigree connections can get nothing but convoluted sometimes and it may become hard to see the genealogical blood and step connections without a graphic representation of the findings.

Family historians and all private clients know from their own research experience (whether it be with family members, friends or other co-workers), how much easier it is to see family connections with a graphic representation of genealogical findings – whether it be in black & white or in variations of colour.

Consider, with the solid and proven evidence that we have researched for you, having a chart or two for your and others’ consideration of the genealogical ancestry and/or descendancy. It is a concrete way to make something abstract, like lineage, into something you can hold in your hands and see clearly how individuals are connected thru bloodline and marriage.

Printed Charts

Are you struggling to better understand the bloodline connections coming from our final report to you? Are trying to better present the genealogical pedigrees visually to yourself, family, friends or co-workers? Are looking to produce a beautiful and elaborate chart for a wall display and framing?

Consider fulfilling your charting needs with GEN-FIND to put it all together for you in a clear, understandable and concise graphic presentation for yourself or the courtroom. The types of graphic charts and their embellishments will depend upon our consultation with the client and what their needs and expectations are. Each can generally be produced in B&W or in variations of colour.

The following is a list of all charts and reports available that we produce for clients using Family Tree Maker (FTM) or Family ChartMasters software, along with their FTM descriptions:

  • Pedigree Chart (Working and Decorative)
    • The Pedigree Chart is the most commonly used format for displaying a family tree and displays a graphic representation of a person’s direct-line ancestors. The pedigree chart can be formatted to print within a regular-sized page or it can span across many pages to create a family tree poster.
    • Working Pedigree Charts are in B&W and are mainly meant for you and ourselves during the research phase for consultation.
Decorative Pedigree Charts can be customized in a multitude of ways and are in colour of the client’s choosing, as well as the information that they wish to show. They can be embellished in many ways depending upon our consultation with the client and what impression that they want to give the reader or the courtroom.
  • Descendant Chart
    • The Descendant Chart is a graphical display of an individual’s descendants with the primary individual at the top of the page and his or her descendants below.
  • Relationship Chart
    • The Relationship Chart presents a graphical display of one person’s relationship to another including the relationship of each person in between. Direct-line ancestors and descendants are shown vertically with the common relative at the top.
  • Hourglass Chart
    • The Hourglass Chart is a graphical display of an individual’s ancestors and descendants with the primary individual’s ancestors above and the descendants below.
  • Vertical Pedigree Chart
    • The Vertical Pedigree Chart is a commonly used format for displaying a family tree and displays a graphic representation of a person’s direct-line ancestors.
  • Horizontal Hourglass Chart
    • The Horizontal Hourglass Chart is a graphical display of an individual’s ancestors, descendants, siblings, and spouses with the ancestors of the primary individual extending to the right and the descendants on the left.
  • Bow Tie Chart
    • The Bow Tie Chart is a commonly used format for displaying a family tree and displays a graphic representation of a person’s direct-line ancestors with the paternal line extending to the left and the maternal line to the right.
  • 180 Fan Chart
    • The 180 Degree Fan Chart is a commonly used format for displaying a family tree and displays a graphic representation of a person’s direct-line ancestors laid out with the nodes rotated in a 180-degree arching fan.
  • Family Tree Chart
    • The Family Tree Chart is a new graphical format for displaying a person’s direct-line ancestors. The individual nodes are not rotated.
  • Extended Family Chart
    • The Extended Family Chart shows generations of individuals aligned horizontally according to the number of ancestor and descendant generations specified up to all of the people in your tree.

In the course of our research other charts and reports may be created for working purposes to clients, such as Family Group Charts, Kinship Reports, Individual and Marriage Reports, Place Reports, and Source Usage Reports.

Printed Genealogical Trees

GEN-FIND also offers its family historians and private clients several types of printed genealogical reports with subtle print options. These can be produced in black & white or in variations of colour. The types of graphic charts and their embellishments will depend upon our consultation with the client and what their needs and expectations are.

The following is a list of all charts and reports available that we produce for clients using Family Tree Maker (FTM) or Family ChartMasters software, along with their FTM descriptions:

  • Register Report
    • The Register Report uses a descendant-ordered format starting with an ancestor and moving forward in time to that individual’s descendants. The Register format is the format which is accepted by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, one of the oldest genealogical societies in the country. The Register format dates back to 1870 and is used to establish “pedigree.”
  • Ahnentafel Report
    • The Ahnentafel Report uses an ancestor-ordered format starting with one individual and moving backward in time to that individual’s ancestors.
  • Simple Register Report
    • The Simple Register Report uses a descendant-ordered format starting with an ancestor and moving forward in time to that individual’s descendants. This simplified format includes only vital facts in the biographical narratives. Non-vital facts (if included) are listed separately. As mentioned above, The Register format is the format that dates back to 1870 and is used to establish “pedigree.”
  • Simple Ahnentafel Report
    • The Ahnentafel Report uses an ancestor-ordered format starting with one individual and moving backward in time to that individual’s ancestors. This simplified format includes only vital facts in the biographical narratives. Non-vital facts (if included) are listed separately.
  • Kinship Report
    • The Kinship Report shows how individuals in your tree are related to a specific person.
  • Outline Descendant Report
    • The Outline Descendant report shows where everyone fits in the family. Starting with a relative in the past, it moves to the present, showing the primary individual’s children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on, generation by generation in outline format, with each individual on a separate line.

Modern genealogy at GEN-FIND takes full advantage of modern technology. And you can, too.

Here’s how to do it.

If we have done your case research, we will already have your data in our client database for any genealogical chart and report production. There is no need to re-enter the data. Just tell us what you want to produce.

If you have not done your genealogical work with us, no problem, we will take all the biographical information that you have and enter it into our database, or use a GEDCOM file for database input, for further manipulation and chart/report production. You will have the cost of data-entry, plus cost of the report itself and then the method and cost of delivery to you.

GEN-FIND offers full compatibility with many major current genealogical programs, as well as GEDCOM transfer capabilities.
