Aboriginal/Metis Research Services

If you are struggling to piece your ancestor family tree together and are seeking to find that family Indigenous connection (First Nations, Inuit, Métis), GEN-FIND can help. Included in this service category are Aboriginal/Metis applications for membership to the three main Indigenous government lists granting status to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who can prove descent from these main bodies.

Our firm receives many enquiries and cases for conducting Aboriginal/Métis ancestral research, so we accept only a small number of cases each year. As a caveat, our firm will only conduct such research that is contained within the boundaries of Canada.

All research involving Indigenous peoples is undertaken in accordance with the second edition of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans, and, in particular, Chapter 9: “Research Involving the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples of Canada.”

To initiate a case, please ensure you have as much information as you can gather for the investigation, not only on who you believe may be the Indigenous blood progenitors but also on the entire family descendancy. We will use traditional genealogical research on the case to ensure that all the appropriate resources available to us have been exhausted. With this said, if your ancestors did not leave a proper paper trail to follow, the search results will be dismal.
